I cannot vote

Greek citizens who live abroad and are entitled to vote in the parliamentary elections of their country, can only do so if they travel to Greece. Due to this fact, during the spring of 2012, a group of Greeks in Amsterdam decided to take action. The I Cannot Vote campaign was launched on June 2012, a few days before the second run of the Greek parliamentary elections. Our main demand is to give Greek citizens who live abroad the chance to vote from their place of residence. The first and last time expatriate Greek citizens were entitled to vote in parliamentary elections from abroad was in 1862. Since then, they have never been allowed to do so, even though it’s their constitutional right. This is a spontaneous and independent initiative, aiming to raise awareness for our cause, in order to apply pressure to the Members of the Greek Parliament.
